This study involving a group of individuals ranging from age 55-80 showed that certain types of fats especially those involved in making highly processed store - bought junk foods may actually double an individual's risk for Macular Degeneration if eaten in excess. The foods include Linoleic Acid, Vegetable Oils, Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated Fats. Some foods that are bad for your eyes containing these fats are the following: Margarine, French Fries, Potato Chips etc. Also included in the study were commercially prepared pies,cakes, chocolates, Cookies, Burgers, Doughnuts,  Peanut Butter and surprisingly, even nuts made the list!

This study covered by ABC News' "Good Morning America" program revealed that it was the first to link bad nutrition and bad dietary habits directly to eye diseases since it was previously thought that smoking was the only established link. What is 20/30 vision? - Basically, this means that a person with 20/30 vision can see clearly at 20 feet, what a person with normal eyesight can see at 30 feet.

20/40 Vision- This means that when you are 20 feet away from the eye chart you can see what a normal person can see when standing at a 40 foot distance from the eye chart. This can also be explained a different way. This means that a person's vision is only half as good as an individual who possesses normal eyesight. According to The Department of Motor Vehicles, 20/40 vision in both eyes with or without glasses or contacts is considered acceptable vision that is required in order to pass the vision test for a driver's license.

20/80 Vision- With this particular visual acuity, you can only see clearly at 20 feet what a person with normal vision would be able to see at a distance of 80 Feet. This level of visual acuity according to the Social Security Administration is not bad to the extent that a person can be placed into the category of legal blindness, however, this particular kind of eyesight requires a person to use glasses in order to perform basic tasks like reading, writing and driving.

20/200 Vision- In the United States, a person who has eyesight that is unable to be corrected better than 20/200 in the best eye, or possesses 20 degrees or less of visual field remaining is considered legally blind. According to the American Optometric Association this level of eyesight is considered severe visual impairment (severe low vision).
